the how to thrive story
It all began with a meeting of the minds
A shared passion and purpose to take the Academic research on Wellbeing Science, making it accessible to everyday people, enabling them to feel and function better, regardless of where they are on the mental health continuum.
Film producers Duy Huynh and Andrew Kelly were on a mission to find someone putting this science into action, creating real-world impact. That’s when they met Marie McLeod.
Marie was using her BEACON framework, helping people with serious mental health challenges find hope and resilience. Duy and Andy were struck by the transformations they heard— people moving from deep struggle to sustainable change—they knew then, that BEACON was the perfect foundation for the film they had envisioned.
Together with Marie, they created How to Thrive, an award winning documentary that captured the transformative power of a Positive Psychology informed approach to supporting people to thrive despite struggle.
But what began as a film, became something much bigger
The documentary ignited a movement
People weren’t just watching; they wanted to know how they could bring these ideas into their own lives, workplaces, schools and communities.
With demand growing, Marie, Duy, Andy, and a team of like-minded experts came together to make How to Thrive more than a film. They developed a full suite of programs designed to help individuals, teams, and workplaces truly thrive.
Today, How to Thrive is helping workplaces go beyond simply preventing harm.
We’re on a mission to redefine workplace wellbeing through science-backed, human-centred programs that empower individuals and strengthen teams
We offer a complete wellbeing solution that goes beyond traditional mental health support, focusing instead on education, practical skills, and proactive wellbeing applied at the levels of “me, “we” and “us”
Guided by our unique BEACON framework, we blend the latest in Positive Psychology and wellbeing science to deliver programs that make thriving achievable, measurable, and lasting.
Our programs are designed for the modern workplace and its challenges, providing individuals, leaders and whole workplaces with the tools they need to build resilient, engaged, and high-performing teams. Through memorable experiences, our methods cultivate psychological safety, boost individual and collective wellbeing, and create meaningful change that sticks. We support leaders in developing a thriving culture, from individuals (Me) and peer networks (We) to entire organisations (Us), fostering a positive environment that impacts everyone.
Backed by rigorous evaluation and an award-winning documentary, How to Thrive is not just a program—it’s a movement toward a healthier, more supportive, and more productive workplace.
